Summer stage Olevodroom
The City of Leuven and LOV2030 are joining forces for a new edition of the Summer Stage at the Olevodroom. Through an open call, we invite artists, collectives, and creative minds to submit their ideas. Together with local residents, we select a surprising summer program from all the submissions. Every Wednesday evening during the summer, we’ll once again seek out radical new connections between artists, cultural associations, companies, and audiences.
Open Call
Do you have an idea for a performance, show, or artistic intervention at the Olevodroom for a wide audience? Then you’re welcome to join us at the Summer Stage, every Wednesday in July and August from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The Olevodroom is a platform for experimentation. All art forms are welcome: theater, music, visual arts, classical, singer-songwriter, hip-hop, circus, jazz, comedy, breaking… and every possible combination. We aim to create a program that is as diverse as possible. The more out-of-the-box, the better.
Unexpected encounters are often the best. Sometimes something small happens that moves you, without you searching for it. That’s why we always bring together multiple acts for the Summer Stage. This allows us to create a full-length program that brings audiences together and gives you the chance to discover new, perhaps lesser-known, artists.
In the middle of exams, but still interested?
We understand that, as a student, you may not have much time to develop a full proposal by the deadline of June 17. Send an email to email hidden; JavaScript is required with a short description of your idea, your available Wednesdays during the summer, and your phone number so we can give you a quick call. We will then take your proposal along to the jury when making the selection.
About the Olevodroom
Since July 2021, the Hertogensite has been a unique cultural gathering place in Leuven’s lower town. Where the Sint-Pietersziekenhuis once stood, the Velodroom first brought new life to the neighborhood, followed later by the Olevodroom.
The temporary installation played a unique role in the spatial and cultural development of the lower town. A new performing arts center will be built on the site of the Olevodroom in the future, which, together with the Romanesque Gate and the Predikherenkerk, will form the performing arts complex.
Even though the Velodroom and Olevodroom are temporary projects, their community-building and cultural significance can serve as an example for the future. The performing arts site will also become a crossroads of art, society, and community: an indispensable cultural hotspot in Leuven & Beyond.
