The programme for Summer Films 2025 has plenty in store again this year: atmospheric short films, a live film concert, hidden gems and the grand comeback of cliché bingo. Films that missed the cinemas this year will be screened under the stars by Summer Films.
SATURDAY 26 JULY: THE COLOUR OF POMEGRANATES FT. KING OF SONG
Live film concert | Director: Sergei Parajanov Cast: Sofiko Chiaureli, Melkon Alekyan, Vilen Galstyan, and others., USSR, 1969, duration: 1:18, Live music: King of Song (Orlan Ghekiere and Charel Maes)
Armenian director Sergei Parajanov broke with all visual and political conventions when he made The Colour of Pomegranates in 1969. This piece of film history was kept under lock and key by the Russian authorities for a long time, but in 2014 it was finally restored to its former glory. The film can best be summarised as a visual poem about the life of the Armenian poet Sayat-Nova. Parajanov not only influenced pop stars such as Madonna and Lady Gaga, but also inspired the duo King of Song (Orlan Ghekiere and Charel Maes) to compose music for the film. Their dreamy sound brings out the beautiful colour palette in the film even more.
