J'accuse at Marktrock
Various citizens, Palestinians, and artists will present their ‘J’accuse’ on Saturday, August 23, from 2:00 to 3:30 PM at the Olevodroom in Leuven.
We believe that LOV(e) is necessary to connect the impossible. With our candidacy for European Capital of Culture, we feel compelled to speak out about the atrocities currently taking place in Palestine.
In 1898, Emile Zola wrote his famous J’accuse. He spoke the unspeakable, called for justice, and gave words to an unbearable silence. Today, we do the same.
Together with Marktrock, 30CC, Het nieuwstedelijk, SOS Gaza, and the Leuven Coalition for Palestine, we are organizing — inspired by similar actions in Ghent and Ostend (Theater Aan Zee) — a J’accuse in Leuven on Saturday, August 23.
With this, we are holding our government accountable. We condemn its silence, its lack of action, and its absence of humanity. We will not remain silent — because silence is complicity.
Eva Brems, Martien Schotsmans, Samier Khaled, Jeanne Devos, Anya Topolski, Stijn Devillé, Ahed Bseiso, Rudi Vranckx, Selah Sue, Jemma Vercruysse, Geike Arnaert, and other citizens, Palestinians, and artists will bring their J’accuse. Ivan Azazian, Geike Arnaert and others will provide music. Alain Platel will offer insight into BDS (Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions) in the cultural sector.
We hope to see many of you this Saturday, August 23 from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM at the Olevodroom (Brusselsestraat 63-69) in Leuven.
