Together under one flag: East Brabant celebrates Europe Day with LOV2030
Press release 7 May 2025 - East Brabant celebrates Europe Day with LOV2030 and flies the LOV flag on 9 May as a sign of solidarity.
On Friday 9 May, Europe Day, all cities and municipalities participating in LOV2030 will raise the LOV flag in celebration. In doing so, they will emphasise their joint candidacy as European Capital of Culture 2030 and send a powerful message: ‘In a time of increasing division, we choose connection, in the spirit of European values.’
LOV2030 connects 32 cities and municipalities in East Brabant. By raising the LOV flag, they show that Europe starts with us: in every city, every village, every neighbourhood where people meet and live together. LOV2030 places the importance of dialogue and cooperation at the heart of its mission, just as the European project was originally intended.
‘With LOV2030, we are building a future together in which differences are not dividing lines, but sources of strength,’ says intendant Stijn Devillé. ’Europe Day celebrates peace and unity in Europe, values that are under pressure today more than ever. Like Europe, we believe that shared values such as solidarity, democracy and respect for diversity make us stronger. On Europe Day, the LOV flag is our symbol of hope and commitment.’
‘Today more than ever, the title of European Capital of Culture comes with a social responsibility that we are happy to take on,’ adds intendant Lore Baeyens. ’We believe that cultural imagination can contribute to a new world, where respect for people, animals and nature is central. Together with thousands of residents from the city and the region, we are building a society in which pluralism, justice, solidarity and equality are self-evident.’
With LOV2030, the cities and municipalities of East Brabant are not only applying to celebrate a year full of culture in 2030, but above all to strengthen society through culture. One of the core projects, for example, is Stadhuis, Huis van de Democratie (Town Hall, House of Democracy), the town hall as a place for meeting, discussion and engagement, open to everyone.
Hoisting the LOV flag is a shared message of solidarity, dialogue and hope for the future of Europe.
