Open Call | Open M
Open M is looking for artists from Leuven and beyond. Apply by 10 January 2027.
How do we want to live together, today and tomorrow?
M is looking for artists who explore the tensions in our society, who question power structures and bring new perspectives to light. How do we shape our way of living together at a time when democratic values and cultural autonomy are under pressure?
With Open M, M offers artists from Leuven and the wider East Brabant region the opportunity to showcase their work in its museum galleries. All disciplines within the visual arts are welcome: from drawing to performance, from installation to video.
You can submit your application between 29 October 2026 and 10 January 2027. Guest curator Louise Osieka will make a selection from the proposals submitted. M will present the selected works in a group exhibition from mid-June.
It is worth noting that, with this call for entries, M is targeting artists who live, were born or work in Leuven and beyond.
Theme of this edition of Open M
How do we shape the way we live together at a time when democratic values and cultural autonomy are under pressure? Artists act as the antennae of our society. They question and depict the reality in which we live, reveal what lies beneath the surface and bring social issues to the fore. They give shape to freedom of expression and open up space for alternative, critical and utopian ways of thinking.
For this open call, M is seeking artists who explore the tensions, contradictions and connections within our society. We are looking for work that exposes visible and invisible systems, questions power structures and explores new perspectives on living together. How can friction, pluralism and difference be made visible? How do we create and maintain space for dialogue, encounter and collective imagination? What forms of living together are conceivable today, and which do we wish to realise tomorrow?
